Relinquishing Control

Many of us as little girls, dream about our future life….  Fancy dresses & proms, Prince Charming that will sweep us off our feet and whisk us off to live happily ever after.  Oh, & let’s not forget the bea-u-ti-ful mansion we are going to live in & fancy schmancy sports car we will drive.
Soon the perfect children will come along (a boy & a girl) and our family will be rounded out just perfectly - Great looks, Honor roll students, Ivy League colleges.  We can then relax in our comfy retirement in the sunny south enjoying the grandchildren & playing golf.
Life always has a way of interrupting our perfect plan & reality sets in. Prince Charming often turns out to be a toad; the mansion ends up being a never ending money pit with a leaking roof and the sports car…. I’m just thankful my car starts every morning.
The 2.0 perfect children… they actually have opinions that are unlike mine.  Goth look & Pink hair aside…. Ivy League college is a far cry & I’ll be lucky if they just make it through high school.   Retirement???  Let’s just say it isn’t looking pretty.
Can anybody relate?  You know, this is called life.  How we succeed in life is determined by our attitude and willingness to meet change head on.  When life detours you from your planned route, don’t despair & give up. Or even worse, let bitterness & resentment take root about what “should have been”.

Life really is about the journey on the way to our Heavenly destination.  Release your plans to his will.  God promises - “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.”  Psalm 32:8

CeCe Winans says: Faith is about how you live your life in the meantime, how you make decisions when you don’t know what’s next.  What you do with yourself between the last time you heard from God and the next time you hear from God is the ongoing challenge of a life of faith.
There’s an old saying, “If your horse is dead, dismount”.  Often, we are trying so hard to hold onto what & how we think things should be, that we miss all the wonderful opportunities & blessings that God has in store for us.  We become stumbling blocks to God’s plan by trying to breathe life into something that God intends to die.
I was never in control anyway.  So why not give it up to the one who is in control?  Sit back, hang on & enjoy the ride.  And that retirement…. Sometimes the detour brings you right back to the original planned route!
Many blessings to you on your journey.

  1. "If your horse is dead, dismount." Love it, Missy! I love old things - but I never heard that old one before. Great picture story! Thanks for the inspiration this morning. Now, off to school to hopefully inspire a few young people to dismount their dead horses.
    Joy!

  2. Yes and Amen...I have also heard when we stay on that dead horse he really begins to stink...isn't that so true, we need to release and let God take control...and His ways are truly higher than ours.
    Great post.

  3. All that time that Noah was on the ark. And it doesn't record that God ever checked in with him, we just don't know. But that would have been a long time of waiting and faith! We have friends whose seven year old daughter has pink and purple streaks in her hair! They start young! As for me, I always used to choose my battles carefully. A little hair dye, what can it hurt, there are bigger things to get strict on!!

Oh I need to remember that!

  5. So true, hanging onto my will gets me in trouble every time. I must always sit back and choose His path for me, it might not look like what I thought it should but it always makes me happier.
    Thanks what a nice reminder.

  8. I, too, love the quote about if your horse is dead, dismount. :) How often do I cling like crazy to something God is telling me it's time to let go of...and all the while missing out on the blessings He has in store...if I would JUST GET OFF THE DEAD HORSE. ;)

Thanks for stopping by my blog. And thank you for the reminder to quit trying to be in control. I can so totally trust in His plans and His ways.

  9. I was just talking about this to my neighbor. I messed up my life pretty good trying to make things go my way and trying to hold onto things that were withering away. Yup, I was sitting on the dead horse yelling giddy up and wondering why I wasn't going anywhere.
I have learned that even though it may make uncomfortable, Gods direction is perfect and his plan is greater than anything I cold ever create.
